Learner's permit

You apply with a health declaration and an eyesight certificate. Nothing else in the process — private practice, driving-school lessons, or courses — can start before it's approved.

It's valid for five years and can't be extended, so if it expires before you finish, you apply again.

Apply through Transportstyrelsen's e-service, or by post if you can't use BankID. Processing typically takes up to four weeks once your application and both documents are complete — apply early rather than right before you plan to start practising.
